Long Beach Island House Lifting

Experienced Contractor

When you live on Long Beach Island you assume the risks of tropical storms, hurricanes, flooding, and other disastrous natural elements. Most homes that are original to the island did not take into consideration the rising sea levels and the extent of how that would affect the homes. Many homeowners have created memories over generations in their homes and can struggle to find a solution to protecting their beloved home by the sea without having to rebuild. This is when house raising and elevation should be considered.

When searching for the right house raising company for your job, there are a lot of factors to consider. Finding a trustworthy company with reliable staff that will ensure the project is completed on time, on budget, and properly are by far the most important aspect for a homeowner’s peace of mind. It is also important to find a company that is well versed in the weather patterns and situations of the area that your home is located. That’s where Shore Builders Group, LLC comes in.

Located in Brant Beach on LBI, SBG is centrally located with easy access to any jobs, anywhere on the island. Throughout the island, whether you are located in Barnegat Light, Harvey Cedars, Surf City, Ship Bottom, Beach Haven, or Long Beach Township, your home could be at risk of flooding, erosion, and even mold and bacteria issues due to water damage. While raising your home can seem like a daunting task with a high price tag, Shore Builders is willing to work with you and within your budget to provide the best solution no matter the situation. Despite the costly expense of lifting your home, we have seen home values increase, resale value increase, money saved on insurance costs, and ensured compliance with regulations set based on the Advisory Base Flood Elevations, leading to a greater sense of security and safety in your home.

You may be wondering, what does the process of lifting your home entail? First, homeowners have to determine what the plan is for their home. Many homeowners opt for lifting the home and building new or extending the existing foundation or leaving the home as-is. Some homeowners also opt to build an elevated floor within the home or add another story. Shore Builders not only specializes in house raising but also new construction and renovation so no matter what you choose, they are your one-stop shop for any services!

The Lifting Process

To start the process, Shore Builders will have a professional inspect the home for structural soundness; we want to ensure that the home can withstand the stresses that can be faced during the lifting process. Once the all-clear is given, all utility lines such as water, sewer, gas, electric, phone, and anything else necessary will be disconnected. Upon completion, Shore Builders will ensure that everything is reconnected properly and make recommendations for how to care for your newly raised home, such as installing additional insulation or other solutions to protect your space. All outdoor service equipment, such as HVAC systems and gas or electric meters will be elevated in accordance with the FPE or to the new height of the home.

When determining the height of your lift, the amount of elevation is determined by the Flood Prevention Elevation you have chosen. If your house has previously faced damages due to natural elements, you could be required to have a certain elevation. Shore Builders is well versed in the laws and ordinances surrounding elevation and will ensure your home and lift are within regulation. Regardless of whether or not your home has faced water damage, LBI is prone to flooding. While there are high points specifically in Harvey Cedars and Barnegat Light, there are still areas susceptible to flooding with exceptionally worse areas in Surf City, Ship Bottom, Beach Haven, and Long Beach Township.

After obtaining all necessary permits, your home will be prepped so it is ready to be lifted. The process generally begins by separating the house from the foundation. Utilizing hydraulic jacks, Shore Builders then installs temporary supports so we can construct a new or extended foundation. At this time, the homeowner will have determined whether their new or extended foundation will consist of continuous walls, posts, columns, or pilings. On LBI, the most common choice amongst homeowners is walls, to create an unfinished ground floor, generally used for storage or pilings. Depending on how you choose to lift the home, there are a few differences in the elevating process itself. Shore Builders is experienced in all lifting techniques and can ensure safe and successful execution.

House Raising on Time

In terms of timing, there are a few factors that will dictate the length of your lift. These factors include the size of your home, the type of lift you are looking for, the foundation the home is on before the project commencing, whether the house needs to be moved to accommodate the rise itself, and any other potential problems that arise. However, the general amount of time it takes to raise a house can be a few weeks to a few months.

While raising and renovating your home can seem like a daunting task, you are in good hands with Shore Builders Group, LLC. Hundreds of homeowners have trusted us to execute their home renovation, complete rebuild, custom decking, and new outdoor shower installation. We also specialize in cedar shake siding, a staple on LBI and throughout its shore towns. No matter the size or issues that could arise, we have seen it all and fixed it all.
